Consulting Services - FAQ'sWhat does the Solar Demonstration Center do?The SDC actively promotes the feasibility, evaluation, testing, display and installation of photovoltaic (PV) electric generation facilities designed for the home, business, industry and public facilities. The SDC facilitates the increased use of the sun’s safe, renewable and clean energy to reduce the need for fossil fuel based power generation. These PV systems may be on-site or at off-site locations. The SDC is dedicated to educating current and future generations to promote the PV industry and make it available at a lower cost than conventional generation sources. The SDC is vitally concerned about the environment, changing the energy sources used today to a more sustainable and renewable resource that will assure a brighter future of the next generations. What does the SDC do for its members and the public? The SDC will provide a forum for discussion, educational opportunities and programs to allow a networking opportunity about solar power that does not currently exist. It will provide a reliable energy alternative that will meet much of the communities power needs. It will also demonstrate cost effective and practical ways for the public to participate in PV energy generation in their own homes, businesses and the public domain. See the SDC web site for complete information: Does the SDC sell and install PV systems? The SDC is not a solar contractor, or solar installation company, nor is the SDC in competition with any of these companies. The SDC does sell PV systems as turnkey kits for installation by your local solar contractor, or by yourself. The SDC also provides consulting services for large scale Solar Power plants. The SDC has a membership organization made up of members of the pubic that want to explore the options of investing in PV system for their home, business, industry or public agencies sector. Membership in the SDC also includes companies that manufacture, sell and install PV systems as they provide a valuable source of solar information about these PV systems. However, no recommendation or special referral network exists with these vendors and the SDC does not except finder’s fees or compensation for referring members to them. What are things the SDC does not do? The SDC does not claim to have all the answers for the application of alternative energy resources. It is obvious that PV systems will not meet all the world’s future energy needs. It will take a combined effort in conservation, better use of fossil-based energy systems, applying all feasible alternate energy possibilities, developing, and applying new science and expertise. It is also important to be realistic about the application of solar electric technology. Although there are cost effective PV systems available the current solar PV systems prevent many from implementing viable installations. What is available on the market today for PV is growing in acceptance but the cost factor is still hampering an accelerated expansion of this technology. PV systems do not completely replace fossil fueled sources, or take users off the utility power grid because of factors such as cost, the diverse and intermittent nature of its source fuel, sunlight. These limitations are clearly spelled out to the potential user who will make the ultimate decision as to their viability of and solar application. Does the SDC promote other alternative energy systems like wind, biomass, hydroelectric, geo-thermal, fusion or hydrogen? The SDC’s focus is PV systems as others are doing excellent jobs at promoting and applying their own particular alternative energy solutions. The SDC’s spotlight is on PV, an area of energy production that most citizens can invest in and apply to their own lives and property. What will the SDC do to promote PV systems in the future? As technology, efficiencies of mass production, experimentation and testing reveal the potential of solar PV systems it will become much more effective as a power production option. The system’s components will have to be manufactured, distributed and sold at a lesser cost to make them more available for the average consumer and business. A consideration on the viability of solar must include an element of education and information for its future use. This is one of the main goals of the SDC. How does the SDC support itself and what are its sources of revenue? The SDC provides solar marketing and consulting services to members and clients considering installing or expanding PV systems. The SDC management and staff can propose a PV system installation for any application from a home site to a multi-megawatt PV solar power plant. It makes the process a simple and turnkey experience, coordinating projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from evaluating project feasibility to helping orchestrate award-winning media events. See the SDC web site under Consulting.
