Solar Demonstration Center

OUR MISSION

The Solar Demonstration Center (SDC) is an operating display site for the latest solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and its practical application to domestic residential and commercial power generation directly from sunlight. The SDC is a catalyst for the sharing of ideas, resources, and information with individuals, businesses, industries and communities to promote a sustainable future through decentralized, renewable energy without creating water or air pollution and minimizing the need for conventional fueled electrical services.

OUR VISION

The SDC was founded to become a “Center of Excellence” in the field of applied solar renewable energy and related technologies.  The ultimate goal is that consumers, businesses, institutions, schools, and their communities will become the prime beneficiaries of the efforts and programs of the SDC. The SDC has established the policy that the work of its management, Council of Advisors, staff and membership will provide the public with timely and knowledgeable insight into developments in solar renewable energy, thereby reducing the dependence and risks of fossil, hydroelectric and nuclear power generation sources. This insight will help keep the public and their leaders ahead of rapid technological change, and help make better decisions. The results of which will be realized in higher quality, safe, reliable and sustainable energy services, well invested viable capital projects and smarter mutually beneficial policies.

The SDC will utilize advanced educational methods, technologies, materials and communications to support accelerating widespread learning, with the embracing of new ideas and expertise, and evolving new policies that enhance efficiency and productivity. And finally, the SDC is committed to the essential goals of furthering the community as a whole by providing profit, expansion and equality of economic opportunity, and real growth in a comfortable, ever safer cleaner environment.

THE SOLAR DEMONSTRATION CENTER
The SDC will offer comprehensive and hands-on educational programs to help learn more about renewable energy. One of the goals of the SDC, its executives and Council of Advisors to assist to educate leaders, citizens, consumers, agencies and others about the new and practically proven solar technologies. Another important goal is to dispel past misconceptions of the viability of renewable energy. These goals will be achieved through consistent application of the vehicles listed below. This will encourage those in positions of responsibility to provide a positive impact on the solar industry, assisting both consumer and vendor, to take advantage of the knowledge-based SDC’s resources. Senior executives and members of the Council of Advisor members will be called upon to participate in these events.

These activities include:

Visitors to the SDC have the opportunity to see the latest solar photovoltaic applications, off-grid systems, equipment, facilities, products and services as well as a number of exhibits dealing with urban and rural living. Planned are themed exhibits including all phases of solar photovoltaic use including installation in new construction and retrofit to existing structures. Also virtual and real displays of industry-specific and special adaptations for remote sites, solar powered appliances, and equipment with actual cost comparisons and considerations. Opportunities to market these solar applications are offered.

It is the intention of the SDC to continually add, update, expand and create photovoltaic related exhibits and displays of PV arrays, controllers, power distribution, trackers, battery back-up usage, control and safety equipment, inverter technology, conservation measures, site requirements and system sizing and maintenance. Also, alternative forms of electrical delivery and other than AC electricity are included. The SDC invites the participation of all private and public solar power industry providers worldwide to contribute and showcase their latest technology, equipment, processes and new applications. This will ensure the continued development of the SDC facility, its content, and their products or services.

The SDC is based in the world famous and innovative Mojave Airport, California where historic and record breaking aviation accomplishments are taking place right now. The sun shines here longer and more often than most places in the Southwestern United States. The SDC will provide significant value to the local community and economy by creating jobs and capital investment. All of this empowers people with the tools to improve their income level and living conditions lead to a wide-spread beneficial social impact.

The SDC is seeking visitors, participants, memberships, sponsors, direct private, public and in-kind donations for the design, building, equipping and continued operation of the SDC.
